
Dr Joseph Giglio is a Maltese criminal lawyer with more than 30 years of experience in the field of criminal law. He is a Senior Partner and founding member of LexPractis, where he leads the firm’s Litigation Department.
Dr Giglio graduated with a Doctor of Laws from the University of Malta in 1993 and has since built a distinguished career as one of Malta’s most prominent criminal defence lawyers. His legal practice focuses on criminal litigation, white-collar crimes, corporate criminal liability, vicarious liability, and complex issues related to transnational crimes. Over the course of his career, he has appeared in many of Malta’s most high-profile criminal proceedings, representing clients both as a defence attorney as well as victims (parte civile) in complex and sensitive litigious proceedings.
Widely recognised for his expertise in Maltese criminal law, Dr Giglio regularly advises companies, professionals, and institutions on regulatory and professional risk, compliance obligations, and anti-money laundering matters. He is frequently invited to deliver lectures, seminars, and conference presentations organised by professional bodies, institutions, and student organisations in Malta.
In addition to his legal practice, Dr Giglio serves as a Member of Parliament in Malta and currently holds the role of Shadow Minister for Justice, having previously served as Shadow Minister for Home Affairs. His parliamentary work focuses on justice reform, the rule of law, criminal justice, public administration, and institutional governance.
Dr Giglio is also a lecturer within the Criminal Law Department at the University of Malta, where he lectures in criminal law and criminal procedure. Throughout his academic career, he has coached students in moot court and legal advocacy, while also supervising dissertations and legal research projects.
